Impact story: Kumpa

A conversation with Lydia at Kumpa, months after the first borehole opened and safe water became a normal part of the day.

The borehole through Lydia’s eyes.

The Kumpa borehole opened at the end of 2022 and started delivering safe water to the whole community. A few months in, we sat down with Lydia, a customer at one of the kiosks, and asked what had actually changed for her household.

Before.

Water fetching used to run into the school day. The walk was long, the source was not always reliable, and boiling for safety cost fuel that was not always there.

Now.

The kiosk is close. The tag is prepaid, so the argument about who owes what at the tap does not happen. The children get to class on time more often than not.
It is not just the water. It is the mornings we get to plan properly.
